Tanjore Paintings of Lord Balaji


In this Magnificient Balaji Painting, the lord is shown showering blessings to his devotees. Lord Vishnu, the second God of the Hindu Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar), is said to have reincarnated as Venkateshwara Balaji. It is said that Lord Balaji is all merciful, ever rushing to serve his devotees. In this Painting lord wears a vanghi like gold ornament, a pair of gold anklets, a nagabharanam just below his chest and 2 more nagabharanams in his arms. His Katyavalambita hasta (left hand) and Varada hasta have 2 covers- one made of gold and the other one studded with diamonds. He is adorned with a sword named “suryakatari/ Nandakam” which signifies that lord is giving all the support in all the ways and clearing our requests. It is evident from this painting that Lord Balaji has strong legs and lotus feet, with ornaments on his ankles. All these are impressions, which are formed on his Murti are clearly visible.
